About

SIMBRAIN was created by Jeff Yoshimi when he was a graduate student at UC Irvine in the late 1990's, and later as a postdoc at UC San Diego. He wanted an easy, open source way to visualize neural networks and so he built Simbrain. Later, as a part of cognitive and information science at UC Merced, Yoshimi began teaching a course using Simbrain, collaborating with students and other faculty, and consulting with interested parties at other institutions. Zach Tosi (a graduate student in cognitive sciences at Indiana) became involved in this period. Many people have contributed to Simbrain over the years: see simbrain credits. Version 3 of the software is greatly expanded, and will be released in 2015.
